How To Host A Successful Birthday Party
A birthday should always be celebrated; it’s the perfect excuse for you to catch up with family and friends to celebrate you! Whether it is a casual get together with friends or a huge party, there are always steps to think about. Along with the cake, decorations and balloons, there are a few ways to make your event one for you and your guests to remember.
Have a Party Timeline
Having a party timeline may seem over the top but it’s a great way to keep your planning on track. If you have a date in mind for your party, then you can see how many weeks/months you have for planning. Then as the weeks pass, you can tick off items on your to do list. For example, the first two weeks of planning should be taken up by sourcing a venue, guest list and invitations. Closer to the time, you can arrange food, music and entertainment.
Share everything about your event to your guests!
A party that feels well organized is the best way to reassure guests of everything they need to know before arriving. This means as soon as you have set a date, time and place, send out an invitation with all the necessary information. This will also avoid people asking you the same questions. Make sure everyone has everything they need to know from parking and food to dress code and location.
Make it personal
Your birthday party should be about you, so why not plan something that reflects your personality. For instance, if cooking is your thing, invite a chef to lead a cooking class. Or if photography is your hobby, why not purchase a Polaroid camera and have your guests fill an album with pictures of your party. You can flick through the album years later and reflect on the memories of your big day.
Catering
One of the best parts of a party is the food! The time of your party will impact your decision on what food you will provide. If your party is during the afternoon, then your guests would not expect a full meal. For a cocktail party, light nibbles or canapes would be appropriate. It is also a good idea to state on your invitations what your guests should expect, then they can plan accordingly. Serving food halfway through the party is a great way to keep guests happy. It avoids guest leaving too early because they’re hungry or guests helping themselves to more alcohol.
Pick a great venue
The venue is an important decision; it will set the mood of your day straight away. Besides deciding on your guest list, booking a venue is one of the first things to think of. Once you have a place in mind, you can check availability and the rest will follow. You wouldn’t want your guests to struggle getting to the venue so find a venue that will be easily accessible for everyone, by train and car. Understand how many guests will be attending, as many venues will host a range of event rooms of all sizes. If your party will run after midnight, you should consider if your guests need a place to stay overnight?
